I am seriously thinking of buying a receiver to go with my new panasonic lcd and pioneer bdp-320 player. I like the look of the pioneer vsx-919ah. i want to use it also with my nad cd player to take over from my tired cambridge audio A1 amp for music. Can anybody tell me if i have front, rear, centre speaker and a sub connected whether the receiver can be switched to play just two channels like a usual hifi amp would. cheers guys

Sure its is no problem, all of them have standard Stereo output as well and most of them hav e a direct option which will switch of un needed processing and screen, to give better music performance. Though many argue that av amps are not as good as stereo amps. But they are decent enough IMO.

Yeah, course you can. If it's only getting stereo in, you can make it only put stereo out. You'll probably have a source direct or similar option on the receiver, that would give you the best result. As long as you don't tell the receiver to 'make up' a surround effect, you should just get stereo.
