Hello

I am having a AV Cabinet dilemma and would appreciate some advice and recommendations. Being a bit excitable, I went out and bought all my kit before moving into my new house, I now need a cabinet to fit it all in.

First off I have a Samsung UE46B7020 to sit on top, a pair of B&W 685's either side and a B&W HTM62 in the middle. The cabinet will need to house an AV Amp, Sky, PS3 and DVD recorder. I will also potentially add a better Blu-Ray in a year's time. The TV will sit in front of a window so no option to wall mount.

I have been struggling to find decent cabinets that I like the look of. BDI seem to have a good range and there are a few I like but each has a down side for my situation:

First choice is the BDI Avion Noir Series II. At 166cm wide I could sit the TV and front speakers on the top. However it is slightly too big and imposing for my room (so says the wife).

Second choice is the BDI Avion Series II 8928. The TV would go on top and the speakers on stands (the Atacama Aurora 6 stands would be quite subtle I feel). However at 73cm the cabinet is a tad too high for my liking.

Third choice is the BDI Mirage 8224. The smallest footprint of them all, but no dedicated space for a centre speaker. So the centre would have to go on top of the cabinet with the TV sitting on top of the speaker. Also, there is only space for four units so I would have to lose the DVD Recorded if I bought a dedicated Blu-Ray player sometime in the future.

Questions:

1) What other brands and models of AV cabinets would people recommend? (I like doors with IR friendly glass)

2) If I went for a smaller cabinet would it hurt to sit a 46" Samsung LED TV directly on top of the B&W HTM62 centre speaker?
Thanks in anticipation, Gary.

I'm no expert, but I always mention Stands Unique, as they have lots of configurations, although they're not the cheapest.

I have been using one of their basic hi-fi racks for about 15 years.

So far as your second question goes, I suggest you email B&W and ask for their opinion!

if looking at spending that amount on the bdi stands than you could have one made to speck from any good furniture makers, which was what i was going to do until by chance i came across just racks.
