After calibrating my Q acoustics 1010i speaker package via a Sony STR-DA2400ES, the amp selects the speakers to be "large" yet in the Q acoustics leaflet it states the 1010i's should be set to "small"...just wondering then what they should be set to, currently they are set to small...

Also the crossover frequency is set at 120Hz, but the Q acoustics leaflet advises 90Hz for he 1010i's, is it better therefore to manually change these settings ?

The simple answer is try it and see which you prefer. Room acoustics and speaker positions can throw the automatic calibration system out, and I always suggest you use the automatic settings as no more than a starting point.

My onkyo did the same with that speaker package..... but I changed them to small with a crossover at 80hz.

If you leave them as large, you may blow them if played loud. Reason is that the bass cone moves so much more on big explosions, etc, when set to large as all the freq range is sent to the speaker. The Freq range for the 1010i's is 68Hz - 20kHz, so 80Hz would be a good crossover point to keep them 'safe'.

To help with the bass/ lower midrange, I had my sub crossover at 120Hz.

I have just upgraded the fronts to the 1030i (floor standers) to help with that area of sound, and even with them I have the crossover set to 50Hz (freg range 48Hz-20kHz) and the sub crossover setting is now down to 80Hz, rather than the 120Hz.

All these settings are down to personal taste though, as Andrew mentioned in his reply. I keep tweaking at it (and volume levels of each speaker) and changing settings...one day I'll be happy and just leave them alone.

Hope that helps.....
