AudioQuest caught cheating on a cables demo?

And I like them.
I'm not saying they turn black and white movies into 4K 3D colour, or the local high school "orchestra" into the Royal Philharmonic. But they are robust, well sheathed with well attached plugs on the ends. Passing a 4K upscaled signal from a BDP to a 4K TV, I did notice an improvement in picture "speed", if you get my drift. Far more fluid motion and a far better viewing experience as a result. But this was compared to the el cheapo cable I was using before I got a 4K TV.
That's my experience and I'm happy. So there.

??????

The author of the cheat allegation 'assumes' skull duggery.

His measurements are of the video footage or am I mistaken?

Surely a 'live' comparison with the cables mentioned would have been the best way to debunk AQ's media.

Did the author do a 'live' comparison?

I find it very strange that they was perfectly fine with this video existing even if false during a year, and when the s h i t s t o r m started to howl, they took it down and denied every implication with that.

But we don't need this video in particular. Other vids of Audioquest are going in the same snakeoil seller direction.

yes, because that's what was being used to sell the cables. Not a live demo. It was a case of look at this video and listen to the differences, now go and buy the cables. If it's true, then it's fraud, plain and simple.

no, because that's not the issue. And if it was, Audioquest have not offered to prove it anyways, they are just passing the buck.

AQ are pointing the finger at d-tronics, and d-tronics are not saying anything at the moment (possibly getting a lot of legal advice before they do).

there's a better write up of it here http://www.audioholics.com/editorials/mark-waldrep-audioquest-open-letter-editorial

Goodness sake, we have been here before!

This is a simple case of someone pointing a finger and shouting witch.

Rather than generate the tooing and frowing why didn't the guy just test the cabled himself and provide conclusive evidence one way or the other.

This is just silly.

Disprove them categorically or go find something else to do.

Maybe the title of the thread should be changed for now until the truth comes out?

Anyone wanting to try the cables out themselves can always pop into the Audioquest room in Bristol later this month...

Chebby will never* look (or listen) to his recently acquired Audioquest cable in the same way again.

I can, right now, imagine his disgust and utter contempt at the company's (alleged) practice. He probably is, as I'm typing this, investigating the companies history, product sourcing, carbon footprint and toilet habits of staff, dating back to day one.

It is probably (right now ... you've guessed it) being put back in the product box which (probably) explaines the virtues of Audioquest cables.

*of course, should it become clear that the company didn't act fraudulently, it (the cable) will be swiftly integrated into its rightful place again

;-)

(The author of this brilliant piece of speculation ... my post ... is, it has to be admitted, using an Audioquest product, namely the D/Fly 1.2 and is generally very happy with it).

This just to underline, that Audioquests product portfolio includes more than just cables. It's 'JitterBug', a 40quid device to (allegedly) remove spurious noise from USB lines (before it even enters a seperate DAC) has been measured by PaulMiller of MillerAudio for HifiNews&Record Reviews culmulating in clear differences with/without improving external DAC's Jitter and Wave form response).

So, for all the doubters and anti snake oil knights out there ... quite a few of you ... its not all bad news :)

If i rub some snake oil on my cables? Will it improve the sound? Ill do a comparison between snake oil and olive oil..(sainsburys own brand) i have recently compared 'crisp and dry' with mazola and felt my fried egg seemed more eggy with mazola? More space between the flavours? Lol....

yep, as in you completely missing the point and what it's all about.

Nothing more to see here people, Thompson has entered the building!

Cheeseboy, there is no point to this - just some disgruntled 'scorned lover' with an axe to grind it seems.

Reading through the 2nd link anyone see the bit about 'subjective differences' or that the video could be 'plausible' bit?

I mean seriously, it's advertising - there really is only one way to settle this.

The balls not in the manufacturers court.

I don't give a flying ####. Someone in the world of hi-fi has been a pr###k. It's not the first time and won't be the last.

As I have already explained to you before, my cable was bought for it's dimensions, looks and required connectivity with no need for adaptors. It's physical flexibility and thinness turned out to be added points in it's favour. I am also not stupid enough to expect any competently made fibre optic digital cable to sound any different to any other. I chose to spend £25 out of laziness and convenience.

I thought you might have believed this by now.

Calm down my dear.

It's just a bit of tease ...
