Guys,

Thanks for the advice so far (Arcam CD 17 v Rega Apollo), taken it on board and it is anticipated the Rega will be purchased in the near future.

Having reconsidered the Amp situation, I think that I will not perhaps be getting the best out of my system with my aged Arcam Delta 290.

Advice regarding a suitable Amp please. Looked at the Audiolab 8000s which is edging it over the Arcam A18 at the moment.

I don't need an Amp with all the 'bells and whistles', it is to be used for music purposes only.

To be used with Rega Apollo and Kef IQ 70's

Many thanks.

I don't know how the modern version compares sonically (and otherwise) with the original, but I always found the 1990s version 8000s a very capable amp. The extra speaker terminals were a bonus on a very solid, well-built piece of equipment.

However, I recently purchased a Marantz PM66SE KI Signature from Fleabay, which managed to match (IMHO) the performance of a bi-amped 8000s pairing! The source was, at the time, a Marantz CD63 Mk2 KI Sig - so an ideal match.

The 8000s is worth consideration, but keep your options open and try some others too.

8000S - fine amp for the money. £349 in quite a few places at the moment (AVLand, Hi Fi Corner), plus a £299 deal on the 8000P power amp means you can get a brilliant bi-amping set-up for £549 and the gear's quality. 60w integrated and a 100wpc power amp. Ample power, good internal build. That's got to be one for the shortlist.

EDIT: Should add that that £299 for the 8000P power amp is in AVLand. Check their site again for up to date prices (and no, I don't work for AVLand!).

cracking amp, just bought another amp tho, so mine will be going on the old e-bay i think.

solid, class, powerful.
