Has anyone used any of these aftermarket power supplies? Thinking of buying one for a Simaudio Moon 110LP but wanted to see if anyone had any experience of them.

Thanks.

I looked-up the Moon 110lp and, it seems Simaudio have upgraded the supplied PSU so, I should think it's highly unlikely that an aftermarket unit is going to make any meaningful difference. Why would Simaudio hobble their phono amp, with inadequate power regulation?

Linear PSU manufacturers have been making various claims of improvements to sound quality, if you use their linear PSUs for a long time. If they really made a genuine, noticeable difference, there wouldn't be so much disagreement about whether or not they work. They are widely considered to be snake oil.

Good if they did. Had an ex-demo unit about a month ago (since returned) which had a pretty annoying hum - which I "decided" it was mains hum after excluding every other possible issues. And it came with a standard wall wart type supply. As does the second hand one I have just bought off eBay. So looking around just in case it happens again - as really like the Moon.

Plus, read dozens of posts of people saying how a "proper" power supply improved performance - far more than comments saying it is snake oil... Now, how much is true and how much is confirmation bias, it's all up for debate, but even if it "only" removed potential hum it would be a win.

Anyway, seller has very helpfully offered to send the unit out on trial and I would only pay if happy. That in itself is already a very good sign...

Hifi equipment is built & tested to work on any voltage / currency / frequency globally
If it is poorly designed a aftermarket PSU might improve the product
I don't think it's poorly designed, as it gets rave reviews everywhere, but it's possible they cut corners with the power supply in order to keep costs down.

Hi, I have no experience with Audiobrava PS. But for my Electrocompanient ECP 1mk2 I purchased proper linear Power Supply from Fidelity Audio. It was some 450 pounds PS. And it was a real improvement in sound. If there is just some easy socked adapter as PS for your 110LP from Moon "in the package", than proper PS can be a real improvement. Or sell Moon 110 LP and buy 310 LP, which is a big mile ahead of 110 LP or Rega Aria mk3, or Primare R15 ot Primare R35 or new Hegel Phono is excellent as well. BR

Haha I have no doubt the 310 will be miles ahead but it is also 4 times the price of the 110 - and twice the price of my Technics SL1500C...

In future, when I decide to upgrade the turntable, I will probably look at the 310 or the Aria. For the moment, the 110 (and potentially a £150 PSU) is perfect for my needs.

But good to hear about your PSU. Will look up Fidelity Audio to see if they have any budget PSUs.

Free trials, money back guarantees and the like having nothing to do with the quality, or in the case of most audiophile products the fanciful claims of the manufacturer/seller, and everything to do with the psychological effect on the buyer of doing so... It's a known and very effective marketing technique

For being such a tried and tested "trick", I don't see many sellers offering that. And I mean free trial of a product which you can return, not free trial of a subscription which you might forget to cancel once the free trial is over, or money back guarantees which mean that you have to:
1. Pay in the first place anyway
2. Go through a purposely difficult process to prove you're not happy and return the item.

Anyway worry not, I am cynical and exacting enough not to be fooled by a low grade psychological sales trick...

Really?

And the fact you're even considering one in the first place suggests your highly suggestible to audiophoo...

Well. Where do I start?

From where you offend me without any shred of evidence or where you use a strawman argument to offend me? Or was it just a lack of basic understanding of text?

In any case, feel free never to interact with my posts again. I have zero tolerance for keyboard warriors and unnecessarily rude people. Go pick fights with someone else.

Thanks and goodbye.
