Audio cables explained with scientific backup

Dear all,

I just saw some videos by Max Townshend from the same manufacturer of audio cable explaining the science behind their cables.

Thought I'd share it as it is short and informative. Max back his claims up by showing the differences in an oscilloscope.

I have no intend to turn this into a discussion. Just watch and judge for yourself.

PS: I use the generic 6mm stuff.

I would be more convinced if the test used music and we saw a difference in that. Finding one tone that makes a difference and suggesting that that effects the overall sound on all occasions is a trick of the trade. Many cables measure differently, but either that is outwith the audible range or it is so small a difference it fails when subjected to blind testing.

In a blind test, would you be able to hear the difference?

This getting into Russ Andrews territory, where a difference is found by measuring and the suggestion is that such will make one cable better than another. But RA was forced to retract as it was only a suggestion and the link was not proven.

Russ Andrews' problem was caused by a claim that he couldn't back up in a scientic way. I.e. he didn't have the numbers to back up the claim.

On the other hand Max Townshend is trying to provide proove of the benefit of using his cables.

I have no way to check it, but I must say I'm intrigued. When I get the chance to compare I will do so and report back my findings.

Edit: by the way I don't think anybody would get in trouble as long as they don't state their scientific claims in advertisements.

RA could back up his claim that RFI affected cables. He could not show that that improved the sound of his cables. That link between claim and audibility is where all cables fail.

Maybe you're right. I simply don't know. I only used van den hul the name, d102III and vandamme in my current system. Of the 3 I prefer the vandamme, because it doesn't add as much to the sound as the vdh.

I cant watch the clip from here, but ill assume its the same clip hes had going on for ages.

You'll probably note that the 'bad' cable cant even be seen. Somone I know actually went to a hi fi show and saw the same experiment in action. The 'bad' cable was on a spool and was about 50m long

Hardly a fair experiment and certainly proves nothing to me
