So far I love my pair of Senn. HD800 however I can spare some money and am considering of buying a pair of Audez LCD-3s which is said to be warmer than my HD800 but still maintain all the dyanmics and clarity and details like Senn. It seems that there is no distributors in the UK. I am unable to google one here. Anyone has any idea where I can get a pair in the UK :help:

Good. Decentaudio has no online purchase but itemaudio had.

I will contact the former by e-mail but will most likely place order from the later. I wll check if there are other distributors before making my final decison. The price of this wonderful headphone is around 1920 GBP which is not too bad though double the price of my HD800 :)

About the same price in dollars in New York - you could fly there, buy them and still save a couple of hundred quid.

I also noticed that after searching some US sites :wall: I will ask one of my friends to buy a pair for me when he goes to the US on business trip.

Two days ago I noticed that someone was selling his LCD2 in the Bay for £699 + postage. The condition looks very good from the photos.

When I decided to purchase it today it is gone. I am a bit regret of acting slow :wall:

there was also a pair a couple of weeks ago that went for £566.00 which I missed out on

they come up occasionally on there, and I keep my eyes open, just in case.

From what I hear they have made quite a few significant changes along the way and some of the older ones had some issues with the wood so it seems like a good idea to buy these new if you can.

Definitely yes - the original LCD2 had treble issues and they've made other changes too. It's really best to get the latest.

Thanks for all the comments. I know LCD2 has revision 2 which gives better trebles while the latest LCD3's treble is even better. But the price of LCD3 is doubled that of LCD2 and the improvement is only about 20% according to some reviews.

BTW do folks have any other recommendations that sounds better than my HD800 ?

I live in London, dont earn that much and have to find somewhere new to live in the next month.

How about spending that couple of grand you have lying around on me instead? You can still enjoy those headphones you already have which you love, and I will be two grand better off.

I think that's what they call a win-win scenario.

Move out of London then.

Well, I also live in London but I have no intention of moving out :)

Work harder and eventually you will be rewarded ;)

£2000 buys a lot of food.

I mean, how could anyone justify spending that on a pair of headphones? Ridiculous.

The same as anyone can justify spending £30,000 on a car, or £2,000 on a designer jacket.....or even virtually a third of their salary for rent in London.

Different people have different priorities I suppose.

I have just spent £250.00 on a Whiplash Audio 8-wire-hybrid Custom Cable for my A.4i's

I really must stay of these website when I have been drinking a little bit too much  I'm surprised I just didnt order myself a pair of LCD2's!!

And different income levels... the kind of people that would spend £300,000 on a car or £2000 (or more) on a hotel room for one night or drop ten's of thousands in a casino. It's all relative isn't it.

Perhaps it's wrong, but at the moment, that's how the world is...

OK, let me at least ask it this way: what profit margin are they making on those LCD3s?

The gross margin per headphone could be 50 percent, or even 90 percent, but unfortunately the sales volume will be small enough that they will likely fold one of these days due to expenses. If they are very lucky and plan ahead well, they might be able to survive or even thrive, but they will never get rich unless they diversify.

I've no idea! A big margin I suspect, because volume of sales will be pretty low I imagine. It's a bit like first class vs economy on a plane.

20% goes to VAT

They are paying US labour rates rather than Chinese.

What makes them worth £1100ish more than the LCD2's? They are worth what some people are prepared to pay to have the top of the range I suppose. Goes well with the Breitling watch and Porsche.

I doubt I'd be able to hear the difference myself.

At the moment I'm desperately trying to refrain from spending "only" £395 on HE-400's because that would be £395 less for next years holiday or equivalent to a months worth of food from the supermarket.

The problem is you can't hear your music with the food :)

Why does he have to justify it.......especially to you. Surely he can buy what he wants, it's his money, he's worked for it. So you haven't got £2000 to drop on a pair of headphones, get a better job and stop whinging.

Only to you. Maybe if you ask him nicely he might let you have the packaging......to live in.

Oh, I dont doubt that £2K buys some great sounding cans. It'd be criminal if they didn't peform at that price though.

And lets face it - they're headphones. And listening to music on headphones, especially these big home-only jobbies, well its a bit nerdy and sad, isn't it?

I get listening to music on the move - it beats the tedium of listening to traffic and other humans - but the only time I've ever been bothered to plug headphones in at home is to watch a film or listen to music when the girlfriend is doing something else and I cant play it through speakers.

Because music nearly 100% always sounds better played into the air, doesn't it? Even if there's nobody there with you, it becomes a social thing. Something primitive about the transmission through space and time that is compromised by headphones, no matter how awesomely constructed. And thats without going into the stupid amounts of money you have to spend on all the extra amps to go with them.

Nah, I reckon spending any more than maybe a couple of hundred on headphones you cant take out the front door is ultimately a bit, well, pants.

Not that I want to see these little niche guys go out of business, of course. But yeah, I suspect the 'diversify or die' mantra might apply here. Money is tighter than a gnat's chuff, and even nerds gotta keep eatin'..
