I have been recommended to use a -16db interconnect between my Cyrus CD 6 se and Cyrus 8 vs2. Does anyone have experience of using attenuated interconnects or advice on interconnects for my system? Thanks.

I have used attenuators - I'm not convinced they make much (if any) difference.

Cyrus recommend that you dont use attenuators as they affect the signal path.

Like a lot of things - beg, steal or borrow a pair and give them a listen - then make up your own mind.

I've got -10dB attenuators for my CD player and have found them very worthwhile. They took some of the hard edge off my system, and opened up the sound stage immensely. But they are not for everyone, and I imagine any effect they have will depend very much on the amp and/or cdp. I'm sure someone will be able to comment more specifically on your Cyrus combo...

I found the opposite to 'Heystack'. My Rothwells (-10db and about £40) were a solid purchase. I did notice more detail, an initial overblown presentation that calmed over the first few days, but finished at slightly warmer than before (a happy by-product for me).

If you've ever spent ages stabbing your remote control to achieve a small increase in volume, only for it to shoot up just that little too much, attenuators allow a greater degree of control.

Just be aware, we're talking subtle changes which you may or may not deem to be improvements. Don't expect to radically alter your sound.

I used attenuated cables and like Chris found the benefit lay in the volume control, so I could listen to music at lower volumes without losing clarity.
