My thoughts would be that the 8XP isn't really powerful enough to fully control the ATCs. I also think the sound would be rather lean, bright and analytical.

I'm very happy for anyone more familiar with this pairing, to contradict this view.

On the up side, I'm a big fan of Telurium Q, Black Ravioli and Clearer Audio.....which (imo) means you are getting the most out of your kit.

I too have similar feelings to Cno. But if you're very interested, do get a home loan and try them in your system.

At some point, if you really want to exploit the potential of the SCM40's, I'd be looking to adding a couple of mono power amps. But again, try and audition the combination to see if it's to your liking.

Hi CnE

So what amplifier is powerful enough to fully control SCM40 monitors?

All the best

Hi Rick

As the expert in all things ATC, I'm surprised that you're asking me. :?

I would recommend either the SIA2-150 or CA2 + P1

As I said in my post above, I'm happy for anyone more knowledgeable to disagree. At the end of the day it's the OP's ears that will decide.

All the best

Still yet to change my speakers.

I would appreciate your thoughts on ATC40s with my kit.

Thanks.

Hi Triggy

What do you generally listen to?

The size of your room?

Is the room lightly or heavily furnished?

Room positioning of speakers (distance to walls, corners, will there be anything between the speakers such as a chimney breast, cabinet, windows etc.)?

Distance between the speakers?

Listening distance?

Your general listening level?

Btw, what effect would you say the filter has had on your 8XP?

All the best

Not heard the SCM40s with Naim amps. but the sound might be a little bright and 'edgy'. Best if you can get a demo with your amp and front end to see how it sounds over a prolongued period (home trial is really essential). I don't think a short demo is going to tell you what this combination will be like to live with.

Macspur had the SCM40s before me, he just didn't get on with them due to synergy issues - the overall setup just didn't gel for him and I think he had a Naim CD player and possibly amp.

I've got 300W monos powering my SCM40s, and they sound great. The sound from the Wadia, if anything, is the opposite of the Naim i.e. fairly neutral with a little treble roll off at the top end. The speakers are very revealing and honest, you will get to hear what the rest of your system really sounds like, warts and all. But with a well balanced and powerful setup, they are just sublime.

I think the OP is using Cyrus kit and not Naim..

BTW I have used Naim with ATC40s with great results as long as you don't go below the nap200. Its not all about quantity but quality of amplification so a home demo is a must. I think David is right..upgrading your 8xp to mono power amps will do better.:)

Hi iceman16

The Uniti system is deemed to be adequate for SCM40 monitors. Therefore a Nait 5i, Nait XS or a NAP 155 XS with their higher quality of amplification will take SCM40 monitors in their stride :)

I think your looking at the wrong speakers with the SCM40s. Coming from MA RS6, that's a serious departure. I'd be looking at either Dynaudio or PMC. Those will give you the step up in accuracy but with more of the entertaining sound you are use to.

He's got a Naim CDP but has a Sugden Masterclass integrated,

Hi Rick

I have a Musical Fidelity amp with Kef speakers which sound fine, and I thoroughly enjoy. If the OP is interested in either of these brands, I will be happy to give him further information and insight.

Hi Rick

Thank you for the interest in my kit, but this is not answering the OP's question.....I'm sure he would benefit from any advise that you would like to give.

All the best

There's a secret war going on between Musicraft and Cno >)

I certainly hope not.

As far as I'm concerned, there are all too few specialist knowledgeable dealers, who treat their customers properly and give good unbiassed advice. Rick freely gives of his time on this forum to help where he can, and his loyal customers on here, are testament to his level of service.
