Are Dolby Atmos soundbar systems killing affordable home cinema speaker packages?

Convenience often trumps performance for most people, but is that a good thing for home cinema fans?

Are Dolby Atmos soundbar systems killing affordable home cinema speaker packages? : Read more
There are 3 or 4 really good soundbars that have cracking deals on them if you time it right but the vast majority of them are still no good in my opinion. A really good home cinema package is going to cost a lot more than it used to and the ones that cost just about the same as a soundbar could well be lacking in sound quality.

One thing about soundbars that still niggles me is that left and right and centre sound can still sound congested and not probably separated as on a home cinema package with left and right speakers, if the people who make soundbars could fix that I think they would be onto a winner, especially on the 3 or 4 really good soundbars.

I am lucky I have an old home cinema package that has great sound and I will never feel the need to upgrade it or downgrade as the case maybe, and just need a new amp every 15 or so years, to keep up with technology. If I wanted Dolby Atmos or DTS:X I would buy one of the good soundbars and just use that and my 5.1 home cinema package.

The hard truth is that a 1000 quid soundbar system in a box is going to get you better sound and convenience that a similar priced seperates system.

Take the Samsung Q990D, which can be had at the price. Build a seperates system that will sound better?

You can't for that sort of money and the features it offers. I could've easily just bought that Samsung soundbar for £699 at John Lewis with a 2 year warranty and paid 3 easy payments too.
