As long as it's a HDMI 1.4 spec cable, you should be ok for 3D.

I know many people have their own opinions, but I've spent the best part of £700 on a plethora of HDMI 1.4 spec cables (all 1m long), and I cannot tell the difference between a cheapy branded cable and a £240 cable.

I took another cheapy cable and mangled it across the entire 1m length and tried bend and stretch the connector ends too, and yes a really badly damaged cable and poorly terminated one gave me artifacts until I destroyed it beyond the point of no return and I got nothing on the screen. Hardly scientific, but I'm assuming that all my cables worked to spec out of the packet.

I bought them all discounted on ebay so when I sold them on, I didn't lose too much money and feel too bad.

I bought a few Audioquest Carbon cables recently for little over £30 on ebay and I still can't tell the difference between these new ones and my VDH Flat and Chord Supershields, which offered no noticeable gain against the VDH Ultimate I sold last year.

Spend what you think is sensible.

I've now been on Sky HD for a while and while I can see a HUGE difference between my top of the range IXOS scarts and the standard Sky HDMI cable in standard def mode, I get the feeling there's more to be noticed when you change your source or TV.

I only found this out when my last Sky HD box started to fail and the engineer came out with their latest Amstrad unit, as I told Sky I wanted to quit because they wanted to charge me to give me another replacement unit, so they gave me a new 12month contract at a heavily discounted price along with a new installation.

I was so surprised at the difference, I asked the engineer to plug my other older SkyHD box in (as I have multiroom), so we could see them side by side and yes with the same cables there was a massive difference. The latest SkyHD hardware is great, also operates faster too.

Anyroad, I've gone slightly off topic but hope I answered your original question. HDMI 1.4 spec will do your 3D requirement just fine.

The final decision on how much you spend is up to you.

A HDMI cable, if certified for high speed, will support 3D and 4K.

High speed is part of the HDMI 1.4 specs. So is standard speed (which do not support 3D and 4K). Therefore you cannot just look for HDMI v1.4 labelling.

But cables should not be labels using version now. They should be labels as high speed, standard speed, ethernet etc instead.

Look for the features you need (like high speed for 3D and 4K). Not the version label.

Any high speed hdmi cable will support 3D they do not have to be (1.4), My "old" Chord active (1.3b) will work with 3D.

The likes of Currys and Comet will tell you that you NEED a 1.4 cable (or more accurately, a £100 Monster 1.4 cable).

This is utter misinformation. You do NOT need a 1.4 cable, as already mentioned.
