Are amps designed for their time?

Playing a few CDs from the mid 90s and not sure if its the general production of that time, but my modern amp does not play them aswell as it does current CDs it struggling a little to deliver what an older amp did.

Are amps tuned for the time and production methods of the day?

No, they just amplify analogue signals incoming.
