Having spent the last two years nearly with problems with a new NADbbe545 cd player, I have finally have decided to go down the route away from CD as the main source of music.

As a DAC am I assuming the the ARCAM RDAC can be used WITH a CD player as well as using it with a Lap top ???the reason I ask is that my dad has a 7 year old ARCAM cd player that he doesnt use and has said I could use this , and thought that whilst using the RDAC with my lap top & hard drive , could incorporate the 7 year old ARCAM cd player as well.

The other question is .... do the quality of USB cables make any difference to the quality of sound (RDAC to Laptop)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thankyou.....Jotaboy

Can't really comment regarding the USB cables - I use a cheapo one from an old printer and it sounds fine to my ears.

I have connected an old Cambrdige Audio cd player to my RDac via optical cable and it sounds superb.

Yes, assuming that the Arcam CDP has an optical output. Which model is it?

Debatable, according to some. But IME a Wireworld Ultraviolet 5 sounds less harsh/metallic compared to a Maplins cheapo.

BTW, be aware that an rDAC needs at least 70 hours of run-in

You mean output no?

@ OP I have an Rdac and the Belkin pro usb is fine for the job.

Haven't tried an upmarked usb yet. However, I have tried the optical out of my mac mini and I much preferred the usb. (More details, easier on the ear)

Cd optical out may be different then mac mini- haven't tried that as I bought the Rdac to combine cd quality with convenience of media center
