arcam amp any good

Hi my son is just a setting up a system on a budget. He's been offered a arcam alpha 9 amp for £120. The speakers he got are Wharfedale diamond 220. Do anyone know if this amp is any good. Thanks

I’ve owned one in the past. It’s a decent, cheap amp.

BUT... carefully check the channel input selector knob. These have a common fault where the contact corrodes and makes the sound crackly. This can be temporarily fixed with Deoxit contact cleaner.

A above, good amp but maybe a tad overpriced even if it's mint.

It's not a bad price as second hand components are not cheap nowadays. But make sure it's tested and in good condition, ideally serviced. It's about 20 years old now.
