d_a_n1979:I have recently bought the above as it was at a price I couldnt turn down.
I have no need for the DAVE unit as it's being used as a stereo amp and wont ever be used as a 5.1 amp.
Now; should I remove the DAVE module and sell it on OR should I keep it intact in case I decide to sell at a later date?
For those in the know; please could you enlighten me on how to remove the DAVE module or should it be done by a professional?
Thanks
There are some products that 'add ons' do not increase in value.... we see it all the time with phono stages. When buying secondhand the amp with a phono will go for the same price as the amp without... But there are some add-ons where, no matter how small, do increase the value of an item. I believe that this amp, with this module, is worth more.
Arcam offer the D.A.V.E. as an upgrade, it is telling though, that if you wanted it, it HAD to go back to Arcam. Minor upgrades (i.e. phono stages) can be carried out by Arcam dealers. So obviously Arcam felt that the installation of a D.A.V.E. module was significantly complex that they decided it could only be carried out by their own engineers. I would advice that you contact the Arcam team (01223 203200 - option 2... I am in no way employed, nor deal Arcam equipment)... often times people will assume that to employ the manufacturers service team is too expensive and is not an option that is considered, however I have found Arcam to be competitive or, even, down right cheaper than independent repairers.
My opinion is that you should leave it in situ... you never know you circumstances may change. Also, if it does not, the D.A.V.E. module will not detract from the price. The removal of the D.A.V.E. is risky and significantly difficult enough that it should be carried out by a professional so that will cost... finally if you do remove the unit you then face the problem of selling it secondhand to another Alpha 10 user who will not know its provenence and will face similar problems getting it back in to a unit.
A better and easier idea might be to buy an Alpha 10 without a DAVE module and sell yours.....
