Hi, im looking into buying an apple tv unit, i cant figure out it i would need a pc running all the time also?

if
I stored music on the apple tv itself could i play this directly
without a pc on, and create playlists etc as you would in itunes, (does
appletv have a duplicate itunes interface?) also this is the bit i cant
find also, i can sync my iphone with itunes on my pc at present, if i
had apple tv running without the pc on would i be still be able to use
my iphone as a remote to select music tracks?

the apple site says you can use the iphone with appletv but im not sure if thats when your syncing with a pc?

thanks

There are two ways to use AppleTV. Firstly you can stream music, photo's etc from your PC or you set it in sync mode and copy your stuff across onto the ATV hard drive. You cannot sync your iPhone from it nor are Playlists available. If you sync then the ATV is a stand alone box, otherwise you need your computer on. Cannot say how well it works with a PC as I am a die hard Mac user. You can download the Apple Remote App to use as a remote control for the ATV. The one that comes with it is small, a bit fiddly and clicks when you use it.
