Apple TV and NAS drives

I was thinking of getting the new Apple TV and have a couple of questions.

My internet speed was measured recently by a BT engineer and he got a reading of 8mbs before wifi slowdown. Would this be enough for renting films from the apple store?

Can Apple TV stream music from a NAS without a computer being on?

I believe 8mbs is ample enough to stream HD media through apple TV though you cannot at present access a nas drive unless the computer was on and you accessed the files through you'r computer .

Even with a time capsule you cannot do it ( so said an apple technician over the phone )
