I'm looking to add a tuner to my system, and have found someone selling a 412 in perfect nick for a good price.

I found a few positive comments about it through Google, including a 1996 Hifi+ comment (don't worry, I'm not fraternising with the enemy), and these seem to warrant giving it a try. I'd like to know what the good people here have to say first, though!

[Also, any thoughts about the old NAD 4020A tuner are welcome!]

The 412 had a good rep back in its day; simple but effective. Not so sure of the 4020A, I know about the 3020A (as I have one!) but not the other. Good chunky gear though; battleship build!

Thanks for your advice - now if I can just get hold of the darn seller! The 4020A is actually a tuner, not an amp (a bit of a misnomer on their part, perhaps). It was released in 1982 (similar era to the 3020A, if I'm not mistaken?)

Thanks for clearing that one up - I had heard of the 4020A and of course it was the partnering tuner to go with the 3020A. The penny drops!

Not sure if I mentioned it before, but there's an excellent tuner related site in the US - www.fmtunerinfo.com I think it is. Very well worth a look; might not have your tuner, but full of good advice and highlights some excellent tuners. I used this when I picked up my Sansui from 1978 a few months back.
