Anyone heard the Rega Aria?

I heard the Elicit R last week, and I dont know what came over but the dealer asked me if I wanted to listen to it and I said no.......grrr

Its a lot of money isnt it, wonder what it would sound like through a Brio R - bit overkill I think for the Brio but gives you lots of options for cartridges.

I think David@Frank Harvey Hifi has, with the Elicit R so maybe he will be along soon!

Hi Managed to get round to listening to our demo Aria and Elicit-r at the weekend, both fantastic products, massively impressed with the Elicit-R if I'm honest, very clean, detailed sound with plenty of power, I really don't think there is much that can compete at that price.

As for the Aria, it is definately a clear step up in clarity and detail compared to the Rega Fono MM Mk11 when using our Rega RP6 with Dynavector 10x5 cartridge, I really think that this is now the perfect partner for the RP6 and above not to mention any other turntables, well worth a listen.

I posted some pics here if anyone would like a look -

Nice pics Paul!

Would there be any point in using an Aria witha Brio R & RP6? Thats an £800 upgrade!

Or would it be best to forget about the Aria and replace the Brio R for an Elicit R to use with my RP6

I guess the former is the preferred option?

What I am really asking is the Aria better than the phono stage in the Elicit? I probably think it is!

Another question is the phono stage in the Elicit R better than the Brio R phono stage?

thanks

Jerry, How are you finding the RP6? Have you done any mods to it?

It's fine, I've had it just over a year now and not felt the need to change except in respect of the look of the spindle! (black plastic). So I expect to get the Groovetracer reference subplatter which direct from the US works out about £200. The other thing I need to do is improve what it sits on - currently bog-standard Quadraspire so either the wall shelf or some other isolation e.g. the AVID platform. I saw pictures of the new Rega shelf - once, on ebay! - mythical beast rarely seen apparently. Maybe the dealers here can confirm otherwise.

Been mainly waiting for the Elicit.... will do my best to hear it soon.

LIstening to the Elicit-R this evening. :cheer:

Paul Simon's So Beautiful CD sounded extremely detailed. It draws you into the songs. Lyrics unusually clear. Very much a smoother, far bigger Brio-R sound. May try the phono input later.

WTF?

Home demo or have you bought one?

Good init?

I am considering a phono stage now to take an MC. My friendly Rega dealer has offered me a demo Aria to try for a weekend - anybody heard one yet?

For the past month or so, Saturdays seem to have become a 'vinyl day' for a few of our regulars, and we've been playing around with various bits of equipment. We've usually been using the RP6 and RP8 with the Fono and Aria phono stages through the Elicit-R and KEF R500's - great sounding system!

In my opinion, the Aria is a must for RP8 owners, and is still a clear step up over the Fono for RP6 owners.

Fono for RP6 owners.

is that all RP6 owners use then?

Why you would use a Fono with an Elicit R is beyond me - the phono in the Elicit R is on par with a trichord Dino 2 which is a superb phono as is the Elicit phono

Feel free to pop along and I'll happily demonstrate the two side by side for you, then you'll see this has nothing to do with what I earn, which I'm sure is far less than people like you think.

Just saying that it is a clear step up over the Fono (and of course, the phono stage in the Elicit-R).

Steve, I've had the Aria for a few weeks now (forgotten to update my profile list). I use it in my main system listed. The Fono (latest) I have upstairs with a P3-24/Dynavector (soon to be modded). Aria is a huge class above the Fono, great though that it (as is the Fono mini) - in fact I think the phono stages are my favourite of the Rega electronics. As you can see I chose the Supernait 2 over the Elicit-R though for the extra £1000 it should be better (though the E-R is actually more detailed in some respects), mainly as it matches my other Naim units, sonically.

Aria is great on both MC and MM but I didn't listen to the phono stage in the E-R so can't comment.

But your wink was aimed at the person you were answering...

I've said many times, everything we post can be taken more than one way. It's a matter of interpretation, smiley or no smiley 🙂

Thanks for the input Jerry - Nice system BTW

I totally understand why you went for the SuperNait!

When I got my Elicit R I did listen to he new Nait XS 2 - very nice amp however i found the Elicit R a bit more open & detailed and it had a phono and matched my other Rega gear.

Glad you like the Aria - I am hoping it grips me!

Just picked up my new phono stage.

In a word, lush.

Michell Gyro SE c/w SME 309 & Reson Reca MM.

I thought I would have to start loolikng for an MC as the new amp would show up the limitations of the Reson.

Not a chance it sounds beautiful with added detail I've never heard, listening to Frank Sinatra at the Sands OMG, fresh as the day it was recorded

Thanks Rega another storming product at a sensible price :bounce:

Just got one, early xmas pressie off the missus - love it!

Can't believe the improvement in vocals - and Im just using the Nagaoka too!

Funny that. When I had a few hours with the original XS I found my then Denon amplifier to be more open and detailed too but the sheer musicality, weight, texture, great dynamics and the directness without distractions such as over emphasized spatiality (Denon) was truly engaging.

I can see why many like the Naim sound. It just hits the button.

regards

Hi David, I totally agree with you, Aria is really a step up for RP6, Since I just demo n bought RP6 and Aria phono stage yesterday, I compared a few phono amps but aria really made an difference instantly, sounds more clear and instruments become more distinctive (Hanns seemed to be very muffy, but the one I auditioned was a cheaper model) I love it, can't wait to set up all that in my office...
