Anyone got an HTC Hero phone and can comment on sound quality?

Can anyone comment on the sound quality of its DAC chip? I wouldnt imagine they would make it with hifi sound quality in mind, but can it really be any worse than an ipods output?

I am considering buying one instead of my next ipod, however having a decent pair of Ultimate Ears Super.fi Pro 5s I want to check the sound quality is decent for high end earphones before buying. The sound quality through the internal speaker doesnt bother me.

(I've heard a bit about lag but also that it has been fixed by a recent firmware update... is this true?)

I have a HTC Hero, great phone that I would highly recommend, a great alternative to the Iphone and a lot cheaper.

I haven't yet tested the music yet but I'll go home tonight and compare it to my ipod classic
