So far I've watched 300, Saw IV and The Orphanage. All of these films are fairly dark set so I would have thought they're quite difficult to make a good job of. All have been excellent with 1 exception which is 1 seen in The Ophanage, 1 hour 23 minutes into the movie when the owner of the house is playing a game with the children, the room is very dark with a number of very brightly lit windows and the camera pans backwards and forwards several times, the motion on this is juddery. I would be keen to know if anyone else has any experience of this scene in Blu Ray or DVD.

In respect of the screen, I have found that Drive Mode '1' and Pure Cinema 'Smooth' give the best results in terms of motion judder.

Hi MV. Do you mind me asking where you got your Denon from, and if it's a 'pukka' UK-spec player? I know that American samples have been out for a little while, but I was under the impression that UK stock was a while away yet. Maybe I've been misled.

mv thanks for the reply, as far as drive modes are concerned drive mode three is for 72hrz and advance in pro cinema is the 3-3 pulldown they are the correct settings for bluray viewing that is what pioneer emailed me. dont you find you get picture distortion using smooth like funny splits and slight speeds up, smooth is actually adding fake frames. there is a sloww panning shot in 300 just after they get showered with the arrows they then form a triangle and the camera pans across them nealing down, tell me does yours pan smoothly or judder. try it with the settings i suggested

Thanks MV. Yes, I'd imagine it was one of the very first - nice one! Appreciate the steer - I'll be pestering Denon UK first thing in the morning (even more than I already have!) to get our review sample sorted. And by the way, Lobby, yes, we're talking about the '2500.ÿ

Just tried a combination of settings on that scene several times. There was slight distortion on the settings Pioneer gave you around the nose line of the helmet of the second guy the camera pans past, but on smooth and either drive mode 1 or 3 it's totally smooth. I'm running the denon through my Onkyo 875 amp as well with it set to 1080p to get it's HQV processor involved, but I also tested it with that set to through and got exactly the same result.

As far as I can tell from the Pioneer manual, all of the pure cinema modes are for 24fps, I think each mode automaticaly detects 24fps material but processes them differently.

Anyone else have experience of this??
