Any HDMI connection can now be labelled as HDMI 2.1, and that's not okay

They did this with hdmi 2.1 already when the port defined the physical aspects but practically everything on the specifications were optional.... they could already label the port 2.1 and support none of the features. I believe the HDMI org probably been lobbied by their members, the manufacturers, so they can sell and offload equipment with old chips alongside new stuff.

If you expect audiovisual tech manufacturers to provide advertising that is always legal decent honest and truthful, then you really ARE naive. Whenever and wherever they can, they will obfuscate, be misleadingly selective with their advertising copy, release products that are immature with missing features, and sweet talk 'experts' to give flattering not so independent reviews.

Always always...read the small print.
