Hi Andy, whilst I echo the posts of other members thanking you for the review, I'm afraid I must be critical of some aspects of the content. Firstly, let me say that this review must be one of the biggest anti-climaxes of recent times, in terms of the pre-launch hype and anticipation of the release of the 2008 Panasonic range! Could you explain two things please? Firstly, in overall terms, your review does not seem to merit 5 stars in my view (although I take the point made by Clare that the quality must be viewed in relation to price, with the Pioneer Kuros still being the class leader).

Secondly, you made a summarised point regarding the picture as follows "Pictures could be a touch sharper and clearer", but in the body of your review which follows, you give no further details of the specifics of what you are referring to or even in what circumstances the perceived criticism occurs. Don't get me wrong - you guys do a great job which is much appreciated, but I think your report card in this instance would read "could do better"!

Finally, some time ago now, unless I am mistaken, it was posted by your team that a review would soon be on the website for testing which was under way on the TH-42PZ85B, but so far the review has been conspicuous by it's absence. Is this still coming onto the site, and could you at least give an advance feel for whether or not we can expect the 85 and 800 series models to fare any better? I have read several reviews (mainly positive) from posters on the forums regarding the 85, and was seriously thinking of buying it - but now I'm not so sure. Thanks.

But if the Pioneer 428XD is supposed to be superior, why are you still considering the Panasonic?

I saw the two sets side by side yesterday. There was no doubt that the PX was clearer for SD (Freeview). On the previous occasion I saw the two together, the PZ was slightly sharper with an HD source! No surprises there, then. Best advice is to see for yourself and decide where your priorities lie. The final decision is likely to be a compromise!

the 85 is the same set but with "extras", and seaking advice tvs are all down to preference i bought mine for hd not sd hence the full 1080 coming into play and the 80 can be bought for 850 and the 85 for under a grand now and the review states pio's marginally better

We were indeed initially promised the 42PZ85B, but as ever the manufacturers sometimes supply us with different models from those initially requested. The 2008 Panasonic TV range is huge, and we've been steadily working our way through the reviews as soon as the sets come in.

In its defence, Panasonic has been considerably more helpful in supplying review samples than some manufacturers I could mention. Oops, did I say Sxxy?
