I currently own a denon 1507 amp and ps3, and im wanting hd sound. im wondering whether to upgrade the amp to a denon 1909, or upgrade the ps3 to the new panasonic 35 bluray player and using the analogue outs to get the hd sound. I cant afford both, so im wondering on opinions for whether the hd sound through analogue will be quite close to the quality of using a hdmi with new denon amp, if ya get me. Any ideas anyone?

I'd go the receiver route, because if you get the BD player you will be buying a second BD player but still keeping the receiver which is older technology.

The receiver is defo the one to change. BD players will drop in price over the next few years so you might as well use the PS3 until then.
