I am currently in the market for a DVD player but don't really know what to look at. I have about £400 to spend and have the following in my "Setup" at the moment:

Pioneer PDP 436 XDE (So not full 1080p)

Onkyo TX-SR705

X-Box 360 (playing disks at the moment)

I wont be upgrading any of the above at this time, so, which player would be suggested.

Is Profile 2 worth it? (Not sure I could get an ethernet cable to player anyway)

If the Onkyo can decode any sound, will it do the job for a player that cant? (Pioneer BDP 51FD)

I guess that the Panasonic BD-55, or 50 if I can get it cheap enough are in the mix.

Sevenoaks stated that the Onkyo DV-BD606 would be a great choice. They disagree with the review here and state that it will complement the amp.

The Pioneer may be a good one but what will a firmware update actually do. It cant upgrade to Profile 2 as Im sure it cant add an ethernet port, etc. Will my telly remote work the player?

Anything else Im not thinking of or considering?

many thanks for any suggestions, over and above those above, any Im not considering?

Personally i would get the panna 35 and spend the difference on films.

the Panna 50 and 55 are now discontinued, have fun finding them.

the Pio 51 is great but....

If you want a single remote get a Harmony remote

and i guess the heading should be what Blu-ray player?
