Could the tech guys put me right on how to judge the amount of power an amp gives from its spec.

I gather that Watts is far from the full picture in that I am told for example that Nad amps can have a lot of grunt but not always the most Watts on the spec.

Also the rubbish end of the market will often have big Watts to make the product look good to the uninformed.

So is there a way to tell from a spec how much power an amp really has?

Apart from the amount of watts an amp can output there are some other things which willaffect how powerful, and how much control an amplifier will have of the speakers it drives. The main 2, I believe, are the amount of current they supply and the 'damping factor'.

I am far from clued up on this though, so I would recommend doing a google search to explain it properly. I'd make a mess of trying!
