Amplifier Doubts

Hi there, i have a Cyrus Amp that part of me is wondering what life would be like with a nice warm rounded bass line here and there when listening to music......it is a Cyrus Pre Xpd Qx with two X Power Amps and 2 Psx-r's hooked up to the X Power's, i have a cyrus cd6se2, and Pmc 23. The sound is detailed and articulate, precise and dynamic, in fact it's almost everything complimentary apart from Big and Bold, with Bass, all the B's basically.

I am wondering what a Naim Nait 5si or Xs2 would be like compared to this set-up and to be honest am considering selling this to get one of those two, however us enthusiast's we ocassionally become disatisfied with our gear, don't we? Maybe this feeling will pass, I mean from what i have read on the internet the combination of power amps and power supplies i have is not even a comparison to the integrated examples above, review's in fact say that Cyrus' 8Xp integrated at £1250 is better than the Xs2 by Naim, so what then of the 4.5 grand combination of mine? I me i know it lacks bass, but if i was to sell then buy one of these, maybe i would just be setting myself up for another dissapointment in different area's with detail, transparency and dynamics' possibly lacking in comparison? If anyone could help with advice i would love to hear from you....maybe i can start thinking of other things rather than my dam hifi!!

I would book in some demo time with a dealer who can replicate your system (or take yours along), and try a few alternatives items to see where your problem lies...

Thomas, welcome on board!

I suspect that amplification isn't really your problem. The Cyrus X Powers should easily be capable of driving most speakers. So I'm guessing that the speakers aren't doing what you want them to do: i.e. produce the kind of bass you want. In your position I'd be trying some other speakers.

Another option would be to add a subwoofer. A sub that's adjusted to add the merest hint of extra bass might give you the warmth and roundness you want, without compromising other aspects of your system's sound. It's also a relatively cheap option.
