Amp only plays through one channel

My set-up is just an Arcam rDAC hooked up to a laptop and a Marantz PM6004 amp with a set of Monitor Audio BX2 speakers and I'm having the fairly serious issue of only having the left side play any audio while only hearing the occasional faint crackle out of the right. This is almost certainly an issue with the amp as the problem persists when I switch to headphones and when I change the source.

The issue had occurred before briefly but it seemed to go away after I turned the set-up off for a little while.

I have an idea of what may have caused the problem, a few weeks ago I let my roommate use it with their laptop and I didn't tell him not to turn it up too loud so when I came back the volume dial was at about 12 o' clock which is way past the reasonable level. Could this be the reason for the problem and are there any ways to deal with this? It's pretty upsetting not being able to use my equipment properly.

If it's happening on all sources, I dare say you may be correct. Can't think what else it could really be. Is the amp still under warranty?

Ok crisis averted for now it seems.

I left it all off overnight and it seems to be working now. I'm pretty sure it's still under warranty and I think I'd better get it looked at in the near future.

Wonder if there's a dry solder joint somewhere? As amp warms up things expand causing loss of contact? Only a theory mind you, but you did say you get some crackle on affected channel, suggesting poor or intermittent contact of something somewhere. If still under warranty get it sorted while you can.

It can be the speaker if all sources fail to make a sound on one channel. As the OP is having headphone problems too, that would suggest the amp.
