Hello all!

I've recently purchased a pair of B&W 685's to upgrade from MA BR2's. My amp is a Marantz pm5003, I have a Roksan radius 5.2, HRT music streamer 2, a dedicated netbook with a 2TB ext hard drive, spectral stands and a marantz CD6003. Chord crimson interconnects. When I got the 685's home having been told that they would be a fine match for my set up I naturally spent the next 6 hours running them in. Hugely disapointed with the sound compared to my BR2's. I am absolutely no expert but my immediate thought ran to the Amp, more fool me for not organising a demo. I'm now looking at upgrading to a pm7003 or 8003. Will these drive my 685's more convincingly?

Many thanks, Tug

685s like beefy amps; they're hard to drive, so a more powerful amp would be good. they also require a lot of running in time-a lot more than 6 hours. give them a week or two, then re evaluate before spending lots of money.

+1 for much more running in time. dont forget to experiment with different speaker placement around your room. also, do the 685's come with foam bungs to tune the ports? if they do make sure you experiment with these too.
in what way is the sound disappointing? how do they compare from when you heard them in the shop?

The 685 are superb for the money. Its quite funny how close to my 805S these came considering the massive price gap. I ran them with cyrus gear and it was fine. The more power you put behind them the better they sound.
