I cant tear myself away from the RX6's. Got Gorillaz - Plastic Beach on currently and they're happily singing away

Very wise, dan. I pretty staggered that you need to change any of it after the huge praises you've heaped on the Nads. My philosophy has always been: If it ain't broke...

....unless there's a serious deficiency, of course?

Rega Jupiter going for £325 at Loud and Clear in Edinburgh - good shop, nice staff, been in there a few times and though I've not bought anything for ages off them (got my P3 back in 2001 off them), they always chat away. Worth dropping them an email perhaps - the Jupiter was the precursor of the Saturn I think, or the one above? Can't recall and not checked out the comments on the web though.

Also, how about an active speaker system? Might not be your thing if you enjoy the less-in-your-face presentation of NAD and Arcam/Rega, but it ticks a few boxes if you're looking to reduce your box count, which - hard for to bear though it is - I might be doing sooner than I bargained for now my son has taken a major interest in the front fascia of the Sansui!

Glad you're sticking with it Dan, you put a lot of time and thought into it and it seems like it covers important bases really well. Grab yourself a new Rega Apollo or Saturn if you can push to it. I'm never keen on buying used CDPs because there's a lot that can go wrong, not to mention that they seem to have a short shelf life compared to other components. Rega kit is amazing and you'll never look back.

No offense, but I'm a little suspicious of the whole "moving the room around" excuse. Buying new kit is quite addictive, espcially if you are prone to addictions (like me

). There's a definate addrenilin rush from demoing, buying, receiving, unpacking, and listening to new hifi gear. Also, there's something about hifi that keeps making you want to upgrade. Because sound quality is so subjective, you know it can always be improved, no matter what you have. And since there's no "perfect" system, you can always find fault with your existing system. You can box swap forever and people spend years doing it. Not that there's necessarily anything wrong with that at all as long as you can afford it, and you're having fun, then it's a great hobby.

However, with all that said, what you have now is extremely good. I know what that system sounds like and I know what my much more expensive existing system sounds like. Many hours with both setups. I would not call the gap substantial. And I would say both systems are highly entertaining.

I would love to call you mad but I just can't. Had this situation late last year, i wanted to reduce the box count so everything would fit in the TV/Video cabinet so bought a naimuniti and it lasted in that position for 2 months until I decided that I did not want it next to the Sky+ box and the blu-ray player so moved to a dedicated stand and bought a turntable and phonostage as well....Oh dear! BUT I know I am never happy so what can you do?

How about downsizing and upgrading in one easy move!

Go for some ADM 9.1s. They will work well on the Dreadnoughts and will benefit from the addition of a sub which you also mentioned getting.

Certainly worth a demo at least??

All the way through my childhood my Dad maintained a seperates system, mostly with a 70s Sansui, and it was never a problem. My inquisitiveness caused no harm to the hi-fi and it was the thing that planted the seed for my own interest.

Yep, been up to Ikea today Matthew, and a couple of other places too, but the damn things that big, finding one with a lock and cupboard doors but there were a couple of options, neither of which sufficed. The one that DID tick the "right size" and "lockable" boxes turned out to have only one shelf setting inside, which meant the amp wouldn't have fitted in.

Plenty of glass TV stands and small shelves that do the trick for lifestyle systems, but traditional hifi is hard to accommodate for these specific requirements I think.

I know what you mean Jax but we have moved the living room round as it's a change from the norm

I'm currently looking into other means of DVD storage and may bite the bullet an store them under the stairs in some proper drawers and get rid of the current TV stand and buy a new one that can have the TV on top and the Virgin V+ box, DVD/surround-sound unit on one shelf and the amp/CDP and tuner on the bottom shelf... Will have to see!

it sounds like a better option to change the storage and stand than get rid of a system you have only just bought - you need to at least give it a fair run before you really decide its not good enough for you

i think jax is right though, we all need to resist a change at times just because we fancy trying something new - fair enough if you had your system for a while but yours its pretty brand new i thought

Haha! Not at all, I think they'd be superb from all accounts. I'd be happy to look at them at some point in the future, but depends on price, condition (if not new) etc., etc., but buying them? At the drop of a hat.
