Hi all,

Just wondering what the alternatives to the Sony HT-SS1300 are available? That is, compact 5.1 system without DVD or BD (I have a PS3) - not too interested in proper separates, as it seems I would have to spend nearly the £300 for the above system to get a receiver which will take HD audio through an HDMI, let alone speakers. I know I will be sacrificing sound quality, but to be honest it is only for films (and games) and my lounge is hardly setup for "audiophile" listening

All I can find so far are systems including DVD or BD (have a Samsung 786 TV - so I'm disappointed Samsung don't do the sort of system I want...)

Thanks!

HT-SS1300 is one of the best products Sony makes. For the money its a cracking performer and much better than the integrated DAV-DZ systems they make. Good range of connectivity and impressive sound. I've not come across a similar offering from another manufacturer.

Alternatively look at the DAV-IS100 which is a combination of a subwoofer containing all the amplification and controls with 5 of the golfball sized speakers. Its a bit more expensive than the SS1300 but a very good product.

If you can stretch the budget you'll get much better performance again by combining a seperate receiver with a decent style speaker package like one of the budget Tannoy or KEF offerings.
