We started by buying this piece of land in 2004

100_1744.jpg

then dug this big hole

100_1839.jpg

then started building my basement, cinema room is at the far end

100_1899.jpg

this is the basement out of the ground after about 4 weeks building

100_1918.jpg

and just so you know it really was us doing it ourselves

100_1926.jpg

Oh! and thats me on the left

anyway some time later we ended up with this

DSC00518.jpg

and this is the cinema room in its infancy showing my home made screen with aluminium frame and in wall MK 150`s

DSC00166.jpg

After a while I realised that in know way was I getting the best out of my projector so started making up simple wooden frames for which to fix Devore Silk velvet to

DSC00163.jpg

everything was done including the side walls and ceiling out to approx 1.5 metres

DSC00234.jpg

and the screen frame

DSC00220.jpg

I made up 6 - 75mm wooden frames, initially the front ones were at the first reflection points

DSC00239.jpg

and these were covered in Devore and then filled with 50mm wadding to act as acoustic panels

DSC00258.jpg

next was to start colouring the walls and ceiling

DSC00250.jpg

even the skirtings were coloured and then the acoustic panels were push fitted into place

DSC00264.jpg

then the lights were treated to matt black heat resistant laquer

DSC00272.jpg

nothing was left to chance and this one shows all skirtings having had the Devore treatment and one last ceiling panel to fit, in total I seem to remember there were 57 panels

DSC00288.jpg

similar frames were made at the rear of the room, A. to cover the rear and side inwall MK`s and B. for forward facing acoustic panels, I might add that Devore is 100% acoustically transparent and the blackest material I have found to date which remains perfectly black at all times, its not cheap but you get what you pay for I think.

DSC00294.jpg

I also thought it was about time I went 7.1 so cutout the plasterboard where the speaker cable was previously run when we built the house

DSC00315.jpg

and fitted to more MK IW85`s

DSC00320.jpg

Sub woofer duties were intially 2 x MX 125`s seen stacked in the corner

DSC00332.jpg

these were replaced by a MX 5100 which is a rear facing dual 12" push pull designed sub

DSC00565.jpg

showing the 5100 against the 125`s, its bxxding massive LOL

DSC00557.jpg

this is the room as is today

PICT4829.jpg

projector at the mo is a JVC HD 950

DSC00723.jpg

HD350_Lens800.jpg

which is fed via an Onkyo PR-SC5507 driving an Onkyo PA-MC5500 pre/pro combination as seen on my AV rack

DSC01076.jpg

Bluray is via my DIY HTPC which I find to be fantastic

The screen has since changed to a Seymour 2:40.1 AT one and I suppose the next development has to be an Anamorphic lens, so watch this space.

I hope you like it all so far

cheers Al

looks really good.

So is this your house and shop right? Also is this one of your demo rooms or your home cinema system within your house/shop?

Thanks

thank you Gel

this is it, be all and end all, lock stock and barrel LOL, the room shown is actually my dem room and so far has been very well accepted when shown to prospective clients and all who go down there.

I`ve done it this way mainly to show that it can be done for not a massive budget, I`m on about room treatment now though not AV equipment.

Next job and actually in progress now is an AT screen with the center speaker behind (where it should be) and an Audyssey DSX setup (9.1)

cheers and thanks for looking

Al

thanks Michael

you`re welcome over here for a look anytime mate as well

Always nice to see Pics of a project as it progresses through the different stages.

It hopefully gives inspiration to others as to what can be done with some planning and DIY skills , especially with the room treatments

Nice to see it again Al

Andy

I could well go into 3d projection as that seems to be the flavour of the month and we have to keep up with the times as they say don`t we

I've spotted one obvious flaw ;-)

It is so amazing, you have to get a black rug down on that wood floor for sound and most importantly, light reflections.

A good quality rug should have a very deep wool pile that should give you similar treatment as your panels.

I need to post some more pics Joe

I have across the front wall to wall some black as you can get black shaggy pile rugs from Ikea which I seem to remember were about 44 quid each, 3 fitted just about perfect as well. These seem to stay as black as the Devore velvet on the walls/ceiling does, it now looks as if the image is just hanging in mid air,

Infact its that black its as though I can walk into the wall at the side of the screen, round the back and out the other side
emotion-11.gif

this is a pic taken a few days ago, its my new 2:40.1 Seymour AT screen being assembled and its on the ikea rugs as you can see

DSC01082.jpg

BTW the Seymour screen is probably as good than anything i`ve seen to date, and that includes the likes or Stewart, Screen Research, Vutech.......anything.

Frame wise they use Fidelio velvet which makes everyones elses "black velvet" look very grey, they are just fantastic and half the price of anything comparable.

Spooky black

cheers Al

miss fujiko:You're really cool Al, well done mate!

well i`ve been called some things in my life.........but never "really cool"
