Hi all, I have just got airplay up and running on my denon 3312 amp after a few minor hicups, but got there.

My concern is when I use my iPhone on the airplay it sounds good considering the files are a max. 128 size, but not too bad sound wise.

Next I tried the laptop and used the remote on the iPhone to contol it and most of the files are AIFF and if I call this right there are uncompressed, so sat back expecting a step up in sound and no it was a big disappointment, sounded dull and uninvolved and to be honest the iPhone sounded better.

Surely this should be the order way around so a request for a little help as to what is wrong in my settings, set up etc and it would be well recieved, many thanks in advance.

As far as I know Airplay streams in ALAC from iTunes so that should be lossless. Your iPhone files are already lossy and either transcoded to ALAC or straight streamed as AAC not sure which iOS does. Perhaps you prefer compressed audio? ;)

Seriously though, have you checked your EQ settings in both iTunes and on your phone? This could account for the difference if they're not both set flat. Also check whether the sound enhancer on your Denon is turned on or off. It can have a good effect with low-bitrate files but makes lossless files sound weird. At least the one on my Yamaha does, I assume Denon's works in much the same fashion.

Hi, I have tried both the wired and wireless and there is a marginal differerence but not much.

I have the EQ turned off in iTunes and on my iPhone and on my Denon I use pure direct mode so from that side of things it should be set to provide as clear as path as possible.

Thanks for the info though folks........:)
