I want to run 2 TV sets off of the one aerial so I bought a Y aerial splitter and connected it to feed both sets and found that the result was very poor in both sets, I then found that on opening the splitter found that there were 2 resistors inside one for each feed causing the deterioration in the signal.

Now my question is what is the point of these resistors as it cuts the signal strengh, surely it would be better to remove them, what are your thoughts on this please.............

Splitters will cut your signal in half - that's just electricity for you.

Ideally, you shouldn't split them - but if you have to, as an interim it would be worth getting a signal amplifier at the source (about a tenner), which should improve things. Next up, improve your aerial, since if you didn't have it installed yourself, it's almost certainly rubbish. Make sure all your aerial leads are of decent quality as well though, makes a surprising difference.

Thanks for the reply JD,

I should explain the I live in an apartment and have to rely on a communal aerial feed,

I also will only need to have one set operating at a time, so the splitter idea was to stop having to plug and unplug the feed from one set to another depending in which set I was watching at the time.

I still can't fathom as to why resistors are in the Y splitter as this only cuts the signal.
