Hi after reading a few intresting posts the last few days (cdp/Pc etc) Im after a bit of advice on my system. I have CA 740A & CDP all conected with chord crimson IC, speakers are MS mezzo 2. everything is nicely run in etc and I love the sound - didnt think I had any problems but...

After seeking some advice in the MP3 forum I re burnt alot of CD's to the PC in Wav and then installed on MP3 player (creative labs with sienH buds). The difference was night and day between this and MP3 but then I started to notice little details in the music that although there in my CA setup wernt as 'obvious'.

Listerning to the likes of Clapton/D. Rice/N. Diamond I can here much more delicate guitar finger work going on with MP3 player than the CA.

After hurrying home to compare the two at the same time all the music is there with the CA but I was annoyed I havent really noticed it until my MP3 pointed it out.

My question is - what should I be looking for in the home system to reveil the music more? could it be the speakers? IC's? etc etc

by the way using Silver An speaker cable and running bi.

Any advive would be great, thanks

I think the reason's you don't get any advice is that your case seems to be a little bit tough one. At least to me.

I'm finding it hard to guess if a problem exists and what could be the possible solution with your CA setup.

Maybe you mp3 setup exaggerates some instruments while the CA sound is more balanced ?

Also remove speaker grills, leave some space between speakers and rear/side walls (50cm or more), use stands possibly filled, if you haven't done already. These might reveal every last drop of detail the system can give you.

Im sorry to tell you but Creative mp3 players are awesome even with the earphones of origin.Im afraid you won't get that sound from any hifi system. And with CA amp and MS speakers I serious doubt it( I donï't like the sound of both)

Ok,thanks guy's. Forgot to mention the speakers are in decent posisitions with filled stands etc etc. Actaully spent 2 hours tonight tweaking (messing!) around. Blind tests done with me and my son and we both agree that a. we cant tell when the speaker covers are on or off and b. it sounds pretty good! guess its just down to MP3 puting the music right in the centre of your head.

Thanks

You are mostly welcome

Strangely I find removing the grille off my dynaudio X12's has a positive effect on the sound clarity.

And as the manufacturer more or less states in the manual: the grille is acoustically optimized but the best sound quality can be experienced with grille off. Pretty logical as it surely is a piece of cloth right in front of the speaker.

Hope you enjoy the music!

Harris

I started off with a CA A5 / Eltax speakers vs Senn 280Pros. It took me upgrading until I got to my current setup before I got comparable levels of detail to my 280Pros...which ain't cheap.

For detail on a budget, you can't beat headphones. But speakers win out for an overall "performance"

Fatboy's on the money here. this demonsrates the difference between speakers and headphones - if you had a three hundred quid 'cans' setup instead of the Mezzos (split between headphone amp and some proper Grados or Sennheisers etc), you'd be blown away.
