can anyone recommend any floor standing speakers for a budget of around £250? I mainly listen to drum and bass and rock and so like my lows-low! Cheers, J

Hi JMan.

Real low end and good overall quality is near impossible to find for £250.

Audition the Mission M35i, people might post different opinions, but at least put them on your shortlist..They are over your budget, you can get them for £300 to £350. These will go loud and generate nice lows and they also sound fantastic overall.

What the human ear can not detect (low end wise) you will feel.

There are not many, if any at all, (but i could be wrong) floor-standers in your price bracket that can achieve the low level information you want and maintain a good presentation of sound.. Speakers to fill that criteria are usually just made to go loud and will easily fatigue the listener after very short listening periods.

Good luck with whatever you decide on.

Buy a 250 pound sub and mate it do whatever you're running now. Failing that, I agree with subliminal, for the money the missions are really good sounding speakers with possibly the lowest range in your price envelope.

Thanks for the replies guys; I have had a read up on the missions and they look like a decent piece of kit - I am now trying to decide between those and the Mordaunt Short Avant 914i.(any input either way would be much appreciated)

I have been looking at subwoofers for a long while now, and came very close to purchasing a Tannoy TS10, however living with friends in the same house whilst at university I imagined that it would not be practicle for me to have one (for the time being atleast).

Thanks for the ebay post - it illustrates that there are bargains to be had out there so I will keep my eyes pealed!

Cheers, J
