Hi, long time reader but first time poster so be kind please :)

This weekend my Linn Basik turntable died. I haven't been able to find out whether this is actually fixable or not yet ( I think the PSU is dead ) but I started to wonder whether it's time for something new.

I have a couple of questions. First, does anyone know anyone who services and repairs Linn Basik TTs? ( I have tried and failed to find anyone so far)

second, assuming it can be fixed, it will probably cost a few hundred pounds. Am I better off upgrading to a LP12 or selling the Akito arm and buying new; may be a clearaudio concept..

Any thoughts/opinions would be appreciated. I am a bit old school so generally stick with stuff. The fact I am playing with a NAD 3020e and celestial DL4 ii probably illustrate that ( although these may be upgraded soon).

thanks

Hi Andrew, welcome to the forum.

If it were mine and I liked the sound it produced I'd get it fixed.

I think there is still plenty of life in it and personally try not to live in a 'throw away society'. You will be surprised how little you will get for it if trying to sell it on.

Their are people around that can fix these things. Sometimes it is better to stop thinking of it as a turntable and think of it as just another electrical device. Any competent electrician should be able to fix a PSU problem if that is what it is.

If you insist on an expert then just Google Linn dealers and phone them up and ask. I am sure they can point you towards a 'fixer'.

... For the quick reply. My original thought was to find an 'expert' and have called 3 linn dealers so far with no success. Haven't heard back from Linn themselves yet although I understand they no longer support the Basik and don't make/source the parts. I can source a motor but a PSU is more of a challenge if it's more than a resistor issue etc.

Hi, I'm not sure on rules around here for advertising etc.... There's a Linn dealer with a highly regarded LP12 specialist in Leicestershire (I've no idea where you are, so apologies if it's unrealisitc for you). I've not dealt with them for Linn but have for other stuff. Found them to be fantastic.

Good Luck!
