Hi,

I've had a NAD 520 CD player and AMP for the last 12 years running through a pair of Mission speakers. The amps given up and i'm in the market for a new system. I've been doing some research within my budget (I can spend up to 1,500 euro / about 1,300 sterling) and i'm moving towards either the Yamaha s700 CD player and amp or the cheaper but well reivewed Marantz 6003 option.

On the speaker front the dealers are recommending QAcoustics or B&W or Morton Short but I've also seen a really good bargain on a pair of KEF XQ1 speakers.

Any advice welcomed - the room is a standard semi-d sitting room size and i listen to a range of music but mostly acoustic based folk / rock/ jazz as well as some americana, indie and classical. I'd also appreciate any advice about systems that are compatible with an iPod i.e. through which I can also run the iPod

regards

Tony

I've not heard the Yamaha CD-S700 CD player YET, but the A-S700 amp is a fantastic piece of kit and a great partner for the Mordaunt-Short Mezzo 2s. Its a very musical and neutral sounding amplifier with excellent soundstaging and a really balanced approach to music. Its very engaging and persuasive and has absolutely no shortage of dynamic ability with the Mezzos. I've tried all sorts of amps with the Mezzo 2s but this is by far the best combination.

It is VERY different to the NAD approach so I'd strongly recommend a decent audition before you part with any cash.

Thanks for the advice MP - I'll be sure to take a listen - Tony
