Hi,

I am thinking of purchasing a new A/V Receiver in the next month or so, i need some help deciding what to get.

I have always been a Pioneer man so have chosen the following Pioneers VSX920 and 1020, also like the look of the following -

Denon AVR 2311 and Yamaha 767 and 1067.

Any opinions and advice appreciated.

I've just recently changed on Onkyo 608 for a Yamaha 767 (for £349 from Quantum Electronics). I also have a Denon 1910, and IMO the Yamaha is miles better than the Onkyo & Denon. I was tempted with the 2311 which, I think is more of a direct competitor for the 767 but it was another £120 more expensive than the Yamaha. Really pleased with the 767, real quality product compared with my Denon & previous Onkyo.

Never owned a Pioneer so couldn't comment on them but there's some good deals about for them at the moment.

Thanks for the reply mate,

I have a Pioneer VSX1018 at the moment, i am happy with the machine itself but it only has 2 hdmi inputs and i need more, most of the newer models have 4 + also some have 2 hdmi outs (i think your Yamaha has them ) which would be handy for me as i have just got a projector so i could output to that and the tv without swapping cables. Hard decision as usual.

This will probably depend on which speakers you have, because system matching really helps.

The Denon 2311 is more on par with the Yamaha 1067 (which I have and is awesome) the 767 is on par with the 1911, the pioneer 920 is basically on the same level( the 1020 is a 920 with extra HDMIs and a few more features).

I used to have a 920 and the 1067 murders it, it's also a step up from the 767 with different casing and power design for improved sound.

I would suggest demoing the 2311 and 1067 and seeing which you prefer.

A review of the Denon 2311 (google it) suggests that its peers are the Yamaha 767, Onkyo 708 & Pioneer 1020.

Cost wise maybe, but features wise, Denon 2311 is on par with Yamaha 1067 and the 3311 with 2067.
