Hi There,

I'm thinking of buying the new Panasonic TX-P37X10, but am a little put off by a review I read on another site talking of picture being a bit dull, and blacks looking a bit green, and skin tones a bit orange.

I see last years model of this set was very highly regarded on this site. Is there anyone out there who has seen both last years model, and it's new replacement in action? Is the new model really not as good as last years?!

I'd be a little put off buying the new model if it's not as good as last years model, but equally don't want to be put off by just one review! Especially as I see the review of the 42" version of this tele gets 5 stars on this site, and is described as having very natural colours.

I have 'spoken' to someone who has had the 37PX70, 37PX80 and now the 37X10 and he said that each one has improved and he would have no hesitation in recommending the X10.

Sounds like the person you refer to didn't have the settings correct? Also, as far as I am aware, Plasma improves over time unlike LCD.

I am going to get the 37X10 so it better be good!!!

If you wait though I know someone who has the 42PX80 and her friend is getting the 42X10 this week and is going to let me know how they compare so will let you know.

Only seen the X10 on standard def but blacks look good and colours look generally quite natural as fat as I can see. Why not go and have a look at one for yourself? That's the best way to find out.

thanks both for your comments - look forward to hearing back from you Scotsgirl when your friend has seen both in action.

i have had a look in shops, but it's hard to compare. my local currys is still selling the th-37px80 for £500 - picture looks good, but not so keen on the style of the set. but they've not got the new model on display.

i've seen the tx-37px10 in another shop, and prefer the frame, but the picture was not great. i think this is more to do with the feed in that shop, and without being able to do a side by side comparison i was hoping to hear from those who'd been able to compare the two.

I'm also one of the legions considering a p37x10. Looks good in my local John Lewis, where it's sat next to a Sony 37V4000, showing freeview, and it has much more natural colours IMHO. Any chance of a WHF review of this set sometime soon? I'm always more willing to part with the readies if I know I'm buying an officially certified 5-star product!!

Hi all

I'm am the proud owner of a P37X10B - bought it on Sunday after a couple of hours looking at it, the 42" version and many other sets in our local shop. We upgraded from a Panasonic 32" CRT that in its day was top of the line. All I can say is WOW - the P37X10B is a fantastic set! We watch mostly SD though Sky+ and the picture is stunning, the detail on faces for example when watching 24 on Monday blew us both away! I'm still running it on the standard settings as well, haven't tinkered or run the THX optimisation either (I will in time, just letting it settle in). Our shortlist came down to it or the 42" version, we compared them side by side in the shop and preferred the picture of the 37", especially with SD Sky content in the shop. Every time we watch it we still say 'WOW great picture'. As a bonus, my PS3 games look superb

. Do I have any regrets getting this set? None whatsoever!

I also read a less than positive review of it online but having (a) looked at it long & hard in the shop and (b) now used it for a few days, all I can say is that they must have either a dodgy set or dodgy eyes. So if you're thinking of getting one then get out there to have a good look at it just to see how good it is. If you can't get to look at one for any reason (Scotsgirl, i seem to recall you're miles from anywhere, let alone a TV shop!) then IMHO it is a fantastic set for the money. Undoubtedly there are reviews that will say there are better sets at twice the price, but ignore them, the picture is just soooooooo good that its a bargain at RRP, let alone any other great deal you can get! Go forth & enjoy - I am

Hi nig-101

I am so chuffed that you like the 37X10 as I have set my heart on getting one and now I jolly well will!!!lol

What do you think of the sound quality? Wondering whether I would need a separate sound system?

Thanks!!!!

Hi Liz

The sound isn't bad considering its a TV - I've set it to Music rather than Speech and cranked up the bass and upped the treble a bit as well, so for normal TV its fine, even on the music channels. Its got virtual surround but I haven't bothered with that. However, for films, you can't beat a 5.1 or 7.1 setup, even the less-expensive ones are better than your TV speakers as you get far more involved in the film as a whole, ie its raining behind you or a car starts out back right then moves through the sound 'field' ending up front left etc etc. If your budget can stretch to some form of surround system, even the all-in-a-box solutions, then I'd recommend it every time.

Happy shopping

I really can't believe people replace their tv everytime a new model comes out. My last tv I had for 9 years and was still going strong but i wanted a bigger screen which is the only reason I replaced it. I now have px80 42" which I hope to keep till it refuses to work anymore!

Hi Nige

Yes I think I will go for a separate sound system.

Just one more question please? Well for now!lol

Do you have any problems with reflections? I am hoping I won't see myself on telly during dark scenes like I did with my CRT?!

Cheers!

I completely agree with you.

Once I get my 37X10 that will be it until it goes to television heaven!

Remarkably the review site that put me off have now also reviewed the 50" version of the tele, and seem to prefer it than the 37" - brighter and even sharper picture so they say. I find it amazing that a 50" could have sharper images than a 37", but who knows? A couple of people have reviewed the 37" on amazon now, and seem very happy with it. Think I'll take the plunge. Hope you finally get your tele too Scotsgirl...

tvnewbie,I also think when comparing side by side a 42 inch and 50 " plasma, both 720p sets, the image in the 50 inch is better. It's weird I know.

I think sometimes the more reviews you read the more confused you get. Would you really want a 50" Tv anyway TVnewbie? Also don't forget the 37X10 will improve over time as well.

I am happy that owners of the 37" like it.

I am hoping to get mine early May if I get a pm with John Lewis for £569.

If you get yours first Tvnewbie let me know what you think. Good luck!

Was certainly not planning on buying a 50" - just intrigued as to why the reviews suggested it was a better picture than the 37". Had a good second look at teles yesterday, and on HD feed I could see that LCDs could have a more alluring brighter picture. But when the SD tele was fed through, I found that the tx-p37x10 did offer more natural colours. The new Sony 40w5500 in some ways offered the best of both worlds, being natural and bright, but it's a lot more than the panny, and I would be concerned about potential back light bleed issues.

How did your friends get on comparing the 42px80 and the 42x10?

Backlight bleed is the reason I am going for a Plasma as have two LCDs and both suffered from this.

I would think the X10 will look 'brighter' in a home environment as the bright lights in a salesroom can make them look washed out?

I will be able to tell you on Monday what my friends think re the comparison between the X80 and the X10. There was delay in getting the X10.

Sorry should have said 'had' two LCDs.

I 'have' the Panasonic 32LXD700 but it has some backlight bleed, or rather uneven backlight and clouding, so was given a replacement but it was much worse so went back to my 'old' one.

I don't know whether it has improved a wee bit or I have just become used to it but it doesn't bother me as much now.
It is quite noticable though in really dark scenes.

Hi Liz

No problems with reflections, we've now watched a few films on it including Blu-Ray and also the Grand Prix, rugby, cricket etc - still amazing us with the quality of the picture and also no problems with fast moving images. We looked at yesterday's Grand Prix both on freeview and through Sky SD, fantastic

Hi Nige,

is the tele a good all rounder during the day too (i.e. in brightish light)? read somewhere that plasmas could struggle in bright light conditions, and were best in a darker room. just want to be assured that the panny would be a tele for all occasions and not just for films at night!

thanks in anticipation...
