Hi

I'm fairly new to all this but I'm considering a home cinema set-up for movies and gaming. I don't want to spend much initially, probably £350 max. At the moment I'm thinking of getting either the Sony STRDN610 or STRDH810 for the AV receiver and pioneer SHS100 speakers. Would this be a good starter set-up or could someone recommend a better set-up for a similar sum? I have a sony BDP S550 blu ray player and an x-box 360 (an old non HDMI version). I want a set-up that would be best for hi def and future expansion, probably just a 5.1 set-up initially and then maybe 7.1 later. Any advice greatly received

If you're looking toward the future, I'd concentrate your budget on the receiver and just a front pair of speakers, adding the centre, rears and sub as and when funds allow. This means you'll end up with a better system long term. You could even buy the fronts with a view to shifting those to back duties in order to get a better front pair.
