Hello all,

Richer Sounds are currently offering the Acoustic Solutions SP131 Turntable for £29.99. Does anyone have any opinions on this model?

TIA,
H.

Saw that on the VIP mail,. was wondering myself, as that company had something of a history of doing the occasional decent bit if kit for really low money, think they had a cheap dvd player that uotperformed toshiba etc at half their price, am sure someone knows more about it though....

If your after a budget turntable, the Bush MTT-1 (as far as I remember) was an excellent choice. It's quite a small one, but it offers alot of support for LPs. Okay, it's not an LP12, but it does have excellent soundstaging with plenty of channel seperation and a fair bit of detail is recovered from the LP with it. Mine, last year (before I started my vinyl collecting) was only £40 in Currys - excellent value!

If you can though, you should push to get the Project Genie (RPM1)- it's far better, although it is more expensive.

Sshhhhh - don't tell everyone! I'm waiting for one to come up again!!!

Other option is a Dual 503 or 505 - bargains for 20 or 30 quid...

I'm pretty confident that any of the three mentioned will confortably outperform the AS...

All due respect, but I'd save that money for a cartridge instead. If money is tight, save up and think about a Rega P2, Project Debut-III, an end of line Goldring GR2 if you can find one. There isn't a plastic deck under £75 worth talking about or wasting your money on. IMO only, but there is a gulf in class between the bargin bin and one of the above.

Alternatively, the usedhifishop.com or Steve's Hi-Fi, the BADA marketplace and naturally, Ebay for better used bets. The Pioneer previously mentioned, used Rega P2, Systemdek II (also IIX and IIX-900) to name but three, will all give you a higher sound quality for just a little more cash.

For the price you are looking at, try greenhomeshop.co.uk, the same as usedhifishop.co.uk, but cheaper stuff that is still good. They are a first rate shop I'm sure everyone will agree. Great friendly service and brilliant prices.

Indeed it is, but most secondhand examples have suffered huge amounts of abuse (and I use the word with caution) from DJ's.

And new they are soooo expensive!

Tony.

There are a couple for sale at the moment with Rega RB300 arms and that's always a sign that someone has looked after it!
