I am about to take the plunge and part with a significant amount of cash to get a Sony TV. I have approached several stores with "Price Matching" policies only to see there is enough small print to fill the 46 inch screen I am about to get. Curry's even refused to give me a store telephone number to get the price match. Having then found one that would price match, they said that they would not order one in for a price match sale.....even though the competitor had to have one in store as one of the price match criteria! You really couldn't make it up.

The shop I am looking at is PRC Direct, it seems to have a significant amount of reviews, both good and bad and they are currently offering 5 year manufacturer warranties on the Sony sets. I am not connected to the shop and would appreciate any comments from anybody has used them.

Thanks.

I have never got a tv from currys or comet due to there warranties and higher prices . i only go there to view a particular set that im interested in . if you can go elsewhere/independent as you normaly always get the free 5 yr warranty which is worth its weight in gold imo .

my local (hills) always price match even online prices and you also get the benefit of the 5yr warranty aplus they always have stock ! ive always heard good things about prc direct and if you get the 5yr with it then go for it ! have you tried your local sony center ?

Yes, I have tried the local Sony centre and they would not price match or even split the difference. The guy said they were selling 4 a day at their price and was not intested in selling a 5th. Trade must be good for Sony.

Check out your local John Lewis store. They'll price match with online sites as long as the site has an equivalent bricks and mortar shop as well. Online only doesn't get the deal, which is fair enough. That aside, their service is second to none and they too offer a 5 year guarantee as standard.

Thanks Record Spot.

I am currently in the middle of an email exchange with John Lewis....they are wriggling very hard to get out of a price match but they have got their facts wrong. I will let you know what happens.

Zedrider, make sure before you part with any money ask about the store's return policy, i have a kuro 50" BUT before i bought this i purchased a SONY 46" lcd & it was unwatchable due to uneven backlight also known as muira affect, SONY assume no responsibility & say the tv is working within it's parameter's??? my mistake was the store i purchased from talked me into letting a repair agent into the house & seemingly after doing so the set then is your's for good & by law you must allow the manufacturer or agent 3 attempt's at a repair...& many many phone call's to SONY UK, many many SONY tv's are affected by this....so more important than the tv is get the return policy ironed out before you shell out, Benny.

A final update on the John Lewis price match.

After a few emails to correct an error John Lewis had made, they have agreed to price match a Sony 46HX803 for £1299. This is £500 less than their current list price and £538 less than the current Sony shop price.

Their customer service really is very good, but this also shows the mark up on these TVs with such huge price differences from various retailers. I have saved £500, it pays to shop around.

Regards.

Not all retailers buy at the same price which acount for some differences in price. You may find that the price is higher with some outlets to reflect the service they can provide.

Judging by the price we pay and the price you paid you have got yourself an amazing deal and I imagine a nice slice of goodwill from John Lewis.
