Can anyone recommend a nice wooden turntable that is either vintage or new of the highest quality run from a Rotel 930 amp and JPW-AP2 speakers ? I say wooden as I like real wood. I am willing to pay up to £200

Thanks

Highest quality and £200 don't go together.

I think you are going to be hard-pushed to find anything with a real wood plinth for that sort of money. There are some out there but they are pretty rare or a lot more expensive if buying new.

A wooden plinth alone to mount a deck into is going to cost more than your budget. Suggest covering something in a veneer?

There are some Denon DP2000's on eBay but they are twice your budget.

Perhaps I should just ask for a good turntable in the price range of up to £300. I already have a Technics SL-D202

Just noticed this nicely finished Lenco in the latest magazine (Sept edition). The review doesn't seem to state if it is real wood, but it certainly looks traditional.

Just £230 including a cartridge and phone pre-amp. But it got 3 stars, so you would get better sound with a NAD at £250 or Rega at around £300.

I don't see a problem. There are plenty of Thorens TD160s about around £200. Great deck, just add a decent cart like 2M red.

I liked the 2m red I had on a Linn Basik. Not heard the Shure though, but I still have fond memories of the V15/3 I used to run years ago.

I tested my hypothesis yesterday by 'accidentally' buying a very smart TD1 66/2 for about £70! You can see the TD160 I also bought a few years ago for £150 on my picture.

You could keep an eye out on eBay for the L75. You can get them with wooden plinths in good working order for your budget and you can spend well into 4 figures for a custom/modified one if you want.

Pioneer PL-12D, though not real wood.

And not really made by Pioneer. 🙂

Really? I have two of them. Who made them then?

As far as I recall that were manufactured for Pioneer by none other than Kawasaki.

That would make sense, as they do rotate a lot faster than 45rpm. *blum3*

It's a wonder they didn't come in lime green. 🙂

I like the TEAC TN300, especially in the Burgundy red, the plinth is made from MDF which is common material on many modern turntables like the Rega's and Project's. I had demo at my local Audio shop and I was very impressed with it even after comparing my old Rega Planar 3. It is beautifully made, belt drive, fitted with an Audio Technica cartridge which is no slouch and according to one review the smallest speed variation on the market, although I wouldn't read to much into that. Basically, it plays records very well and sounds great for £300 and you get a warranty.
