Just wondering...can the squeezebox be used in conjunction with a NAS and if so, does that mean the main cpu does not have to be on at the time?

Also how does the audio quality compare to that of an external dac? like the beresford or Dac Magic etc?

Yes, though choose carefully as some can't run Squeezecentre, and those that are I wouldn't fancy doing myself - look at ripcaster for compatible NASes with squeezecentre pre-loaded.

Don't know specifically, though the duet seems to beat the classic with no DAC involved from what I've read. I would certainly try them without first.

Yes it can be used with a NAS (once you can get the squeezecentre software loaded on the NAS - some NAS' come with it pre-installed)... And yes it means your computer no longer has to be on (just the NAS)...

I haven't tried the Beresford or Dac Magic, but I'd expect them to be better than the Squeezebox (how much better & whether the difference is worth the money? I really don't know)...
