Ok, what am I missing here?

Are Abrahamsen Audio no longer shipping directly to the UK other than through IQ Speakers? I've not read the the Abrahamsen V2.0 thread for a while, so apologies if it's already been addressed there. The Abrahamsen V2.0 UP is currently being sold direct through Abrahamsen at 7000 Kr but the price on IQ Speakers new site is a rather alarming £899 + £15 shipping. What gives, surely I'm missing something?

I'm not attempting to throw a spanner in anyone's works here, I'm all for supporting this new venture but not when it puts me out of pocket by the sum of £300+

Because Norway is not in the EU, there will be import duty to pay.

similarly I bought a marantz turntable from the Netherlands for £920.00. While the price from the uk supplier was £1599.00 which I thought was rediculous.

Maybe try and source one from a European country within the EU. You may just save yourself some money.

that there was no inport duty on these units. I'm sure they were being shipped via Sweden? Is this not the case?

I'm looking elsewhere.

It is a very, very good time to go fishing in Europe. I picked up my Audio Research Ref CD9 for £7500 (UK RRP £11000) from a dealer in Holland. It would be even cheaper now at £7300 because of the exchange rate! However give this short thread a read because there are pitfalls to consider when buying from outside of the UK.....

I read the beginning of that thread when first started, lots to consider. I've been looking at some decent deals from Italy in my search for a moderately priced turntable...

can I still import directly from Abrahamsen (like others have done previously) and face any import costs if I choose?

Not sure. I think Abrahamsen comes from Norway and Electrocompaniet from Sweden. Anyways, its still a good deal even at that price IMO, especially considering someone else will take on the warranty headaches. The few brave individuals got it for super cheap but that train has departed. C'est la vie.

As far as I know Abrahamsen is still selling direct .

The V2.0 UP is 7900 NOK which is approx £661 plus shipping from Norway plus import duty and possibly VAT on top , so it is not so bad at all really , and of course in the unlikely event of any problem you do not have to send it back to Norway if you buy from IQ. *smile*

I am sure IQ is making very little if anything on the sales but even if he is making a small profit I say good luck to him, the V20 UP performance and build quality is worth at least double the asking price imo.

It seems no imput duty was applied as they were previously sent from Sweden. Price on the offical shop site this evening quotes 7000 Kr... anyway I feel I've rocked this boat enough for this evening.

Yes you're right ,they must have reduced the price to 7000 NOK since last looked , you should contact IQ and arrange a demo , I suspect all worries about the price will quickly disapear if you do *smile*

And we are all on the take and we got guns see. Meh. Never walk these streets again see.

Hi

Ive liked the sound of this amp but have already settled on a hegel 160
Out of interest if i was to demo one where are you?

Regards

Sorry been asleep! No import duty no tax. +766 NOK shipping to UK. Your more than welcome to buy direct from Abrahamsen. Your choice if you want to come for a demo you are more than welcome. EDIT I dont have UK exclusivity.

Im trying to get a UK service/warranty service centre set up. Takes time, effort, risk and money. Surely that's what UK dealers do with products from Naim, Rega etc? Least I've taken the chance to offer something positive. And hey if you talk to me I I might just do them cheaper! I'm trying to build something for the benefit of us all and make a little business. Is that wrong?

I'm in Cheltenham your more than welcome to bring it over.

That would be a very interesting comparison , Abrahamsen / Electrocompaniet and Hegel have a very similar basic design philosophy *smile* .

I blame you entirely Electro! Macspur is visiting on the 23rd April so should be interesting to get his thoughts, you never know the V10UP should of arrived by then!

That would be another very interesting comparison ,I suspect it might be a close run thing .

Unfortunately theElectrocompaniet EMC 1 UP Cd player is no more and has been replaced by the EMC 1 mk 111 which is now an SACD player and a limited edition run of less than 400 units, it only has the case work in common with the old machine .

This has happened because Phillips have discontinued the wonderful CD PRO 2 mechanism which is probably the best and most reliable Cd mech ever made .

Fortunately another company has bought the rights and manufacturing tools to keep replacement mech available mainly for the professional jukebox industry , the only downside is that the mechs are $450 each but the engineering and quality is superb .

Are you missing somthing? Yes i think you are, first thing the cost of shipping from Sweden 766 NOK. Second the first amp i sold, I spent 3 hours demoing from 5.30 to 8 after a hard days work on Saturday at my house. When he picked the Amp up we unsealed a brand new sealed box, pluged it all in and made sure it was all OK. Probally another 2 hours. He payed £723 after Paypal fees. I must say it was a hugley enjoyable experience though, to see the look on Zebadees face. Third I have spent many long hours building the website. Fourth I have just payed out 14000 NOK to order 2 more UP and have not heard anything in a week! And i requested an invoice for 2 V10 UP CD players in that time. So if you talk to me I'm sure we could do better. Now i hardley call that Alarming.

I'm trying to build somthing with Abrahamsen so we can organise UK warranty and repair back up.

Incidently I would take those PMC 23's back and ask for the £600-800 that the dealer took out of your pocket.

Wow only in USA! they have such a huge market place. I love peoples ingenuity a good quality. At least you know you can replace the drive with a quality product. Ill inform Mac.

There are no import duties on Norwegian goods because they are part of the European Free Trade Association group of countries. (Switzerland, Iceland, Lichtenstein). The UK and a number of other nations used to be members but left for the EC proper.

Norway pay dearly for this access to EU markets but have no right to help form the rules they, as we, have to abide by.
