Hey all,

As my 40th birthday is looming my wife is going to buy me a pair of Apex A10's.

I am going to replace my Radius R90HDs with the Apex as surround channels.

Do I use the Radius as front Height channels using Pro logic 2z or have them as rear back surounds?

My sofa is against rear wall with the surround at my sides just above head height.. The rear backs would have to be wall mounted above the picture rail angled down.

I cant experiment as if I drill any more holes in the wall i am in trouble.

I listen to a lot of multi channel music so not sure if using height with pro logic 2z or rear back using prol logic 2x.

Any thoughts much appreciated

Any one tried Audyssey DSX? I could install it but for £100 is it worth it? I dont have room for front wide it would only be for front height channels. Is this better than Pro logic 2z height?

Cheers guys

Hi ric, i would definately use them for back surrounds and your room sounds alot like mine with my surrounds at the side and my chair is against the back wall.
Just put them directly above you like i have or spaced out either side of your chair above you.

You wont be disappointed :)

I used to have a Denon with the front height setup, I have to say it did add an additional dimension to the front stage. And there still aren't huge amount of blu rays authored in 7.1.

Hi Ric, I've just installed front heights (also have rear surrounds) and I'm very pleased with the results. I calibrated the speakers using Audyssey DSX XT32 and I have been very impressed with the way this distributes the soundfield. For film soundtracks the effects are totally convincing without drawing attention to any particular speaker(s) and with music the soundstage just seems realistic and doesn't suffer from some of the side effects of other audio DSP (such as unnatural echo or reverberation). I haven't got sufficient space for front wides either, but am pleased I added the heights, it does add an extra dimension without introducing any artificial artifacts. I prefer Audyssey over Dolby IIz, it just seems more natural to my ears.
