hey ive just ordered my new set up and was told my B&W 685 pack would take approx 2 weeks for it all to come. So this thought just poped into my head. Would it be worth upgrading the rear 686 speakers to the 685 speaker for some extra bass or would this unbalance the surround sound?

It won't unbalance the sound (in fact in terms of balance, the absolutely ideal setup would be to have the same 5 speakers around the room). However, in my opinion, unless you have money to burn, it's not worth the extra outlay - the 686s are more than capable for the surround effects and it sounds fanatastic (I demoed them before deciding I had to go with M-1s at the rear because of space issues).

The extra £100 would be better spent elsewhere (such as cables, stands etc.) in my opinion, or if you have them all covered already, then more films!

I have just bought the 685 Theatre package but I upgraded the subwoofer to the ASW 610 and it sound fantastic via my Onkyo 905. I would recommend you buy Chord Carnival Silverscreen cable and Atacama Nexus 6 speaker stands. My wife loves the black finish on the speakers and the stands and the sound! She hated my large Floorstanding KEFs which were too big my son loves them though. PS Superfi in Birmingham got my speakers in 3 days.
