I had been hoping to get a pioneer 500a or 5090 but i'm not willing to pay the extorionate prices now being asked. Having now settled ( maybe ) for what hi fi's product of the year samsung ps- 50 b650 can anyone tell me if the ps- 58 b680 is as good a tv. The larger tv is in my price range but does it lose any quality.

Any other opinions of which other tv's up to 2000 pounds are worth looking at are welcome.

( I would have went that bit further for the pioneers )

Thanks

You should get a Pioneer 5090 for your budget. Have a look at the Panasonic V10 series. The 50-inch TV should be available for £1500. Some say that it's not worth the premium over the G10, but I found the V10 to be significantly better than the G10.

maxflinn:better ? yes , but £500 better ? me think no ..

It's the same as asking: "Is a £100 branded HDMI cable 20 times better than a £5 non-branded one?" or "Is the audio/video performance from Pioneer LX52 twice as better than the Sony S360 which costs half as much?"

Beyond a certain point, you will pay much more for small increases in performance. It's for the OP to decide if it's worth it.

If I had not got the KRP 500A, I would've gone for the V10.

What were the extortionate prices you were getting quoted for a Kuro? I bought mine, a 5090, last week for £2150 delivered with free 5 year guarantee, and the dealer I bought it from still had some left in stock.

I'd keep away from the samsung, too many complaints about loud buzzing noises from the rear of the sets. As bigboss says the panansonic would be a good buy, that was going to be my fall back if I couldnt get a Kuro.

I couldn't find a 5090 for less than 2500 and the 500a even went up to 3999 same price ( more sometimes ) than a 6090 ?

Not sure what the rules are on here how can i find out the dealer you got yours from.

Still would like the kuro

Thanks

I ordered mine from leconcepts in Newcastle. Very helpfull they were. Spoke to the guy for about 20 mins, before I ordered. This was the best price I could find. Found a couple of other dealers around the £2300 mark aswell. I just used a well known search engine to find mine.

I have eventually got my hands on a 5090 for 2200 from the same place.Delivered and with the 5 year guarantee. Under the circumstances i'd have to say i'm pleased. Thanks for the info and all other views.

Hope it was worth the chasing and waiting !

As to 50 or 58", that's quite a difference in size even if it does'nt sound like it. Mine was a 50" and I'd sometimes wished I had gone for a different/smaller telly. Whilst anything HD looked fine, SD looked ragged and will do more so, the bigger the screen gets.

In hindsight I'd personally think 50" is the largest sensible size for a tv. Bigger than that I'd go projection. Ideally and what I would probably do in the future, is something like a 46" tv, a good day to day compromise which does'nt take over the living space and a pj with motorized screen.
